Important Points for Departure from India:
Passengers carrying high-value items, such as jewellery, must obtain an export certificate to avoid customs duties when re-importing them.
Physical verification is required to get this certificate.
For requirements of export certificates, passengers may connect with Customs officials in person at Departures after clearing Immigration. Or to provide prior information, passengers may contact the Customs duty cell at +91 9104007501.
Indian residents may carry up to *INR 25,000* in Indian currency.
Carrying INR 500 to Nepal and Bhutan is not allowed; only INR 100 or smaller denominations are permitted.
There is no limit on the amount of foreign exchange Indian residents can carry if issued by an RBI-authorised dealer. However, foreign currency exceeding US $5,000 (or equivalent) in cash or a total foreign exchange amount exceeding US $10,000 (or equivalent) must be declared at the Customs Counter.
Tourists and NRIs can take foreign currency out of India, but only up to the amount brought in.
